Petroleum Geology in Field Development and Asset Management (PBM46)

  • 30 Sep-2 Oct 20243 daysVienna, AustriaCourse Fee: 2450 EUR + VAT

Description

The course covers the principles of petroleum geology and the methods, concepts, technologies and language employed in subsurface analysis. In addition, and as a key learning objective, the course elucidates the role of petroleum geology at various decision gates throughout the field life cycle from gaining access to opportunity through exploration, appraisal, development, early and late production to decommissioning. It examines how geological considerations contribute to key decision-making processes and how the evaluation and management of subsurface uncertainties need to be considered and integrated at the various project stages of an oil or gas field. The links to other disciplines and the methods of integration and collaboration are emphasized.

Course Level: Foundation / Skill
Instructor: Frank Jahn

Designed for you, if you are...

  • A subsurface, surface or commercial professional involved in planning or executing upstream projects
  • Interested in understanding better how geological principles are applied to complex technical and commercial business decisions
  • Representing stakeholders (NGOs, government, finance institutions) concerned about key issues of planned or ongoing projects

How we build your confidence

  • The course is based on presentations, discussions and supported by videos.
  • Short group projects are added to enhance subject matter understanding and stimulate discussions.

The benefits from attending

By the end of the course you will feel confident in your understanding of:
  • Technology, concepts, methods and terminology used in Petroleum Geology (PG)
  • The PG contribution to various stages of the Field Life Cycle and related key decisions
  • The source and elements of geological subsurface risks and uncertainties
  • Application of PG to well planning and drilling operations (operations geology)
  • Geology of unconventional reservoirs
