This course focuses on chemical enhanced oil recovery methods. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) projects are usually handled by multidisciplinary teams. This course targets petroleum engineers or geoscientists that aim to gain insights into the aspects of mobilizing and displacing oil from hydrocarbon reservoirs by using chemical compounds added to the injected fluids. Various chemicals are discussed (polymers, surfactants, etc.), their displacement contributions explained and their application in complex combinations outlined. Field case histories and screening factors are also discussed.
Course Level: Foundation / Skill Duration: 4 days Instructor: Leonhard Ganzer
Designed for you, if you are...
Interested in EOR methods or involved in EOR projects
A petroleum engineer, laboratory researcher or geoscientist
How we build your confidence
The technical and practical aspects of the various chemical EOR processes (polymer, surfactant, alkaline and their combinations) are discussed along with examples and field case histories. You will be encouraged to engage in discussions based on your experience.
Examples from simplified laboratory experiments using microfluidics will strengthen your understanding of the relevant displacement processes.
The benefits from attending
By the end of the course you will feel confident in your understanding of:
The concepts and ideas of oil mobilisation and displacement efficiency
The potential of chemical EOR methods
The efficiency of hydrocarbon displacement processes
EOR screening and pilot testing for chemical EOR
Field case histories of chemical EOR projects around the globe
